Music Teacher
The Music Teacher at Abundant Life Christian School provides Christ-centered music instruction to elementary and middle school students (K–8). The teacher’s goal is to cultivate an appreciation for music as a gift from God, develop students’ musical abilities, and encourage creative expression through vocal and instrumental music. The Music Teacher plays a vital role in helping students use their talents to glorify God through musical learning, worship, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide engaging music instruction to students in grades K–8, including foundational skills such as voice, tone, tempo, rhythm, and musical expression.
- Integrate a biblical worldview into music instruction, helping students understand how music can be used to worship and honor God.
- Train, rehearse, and lead students in school performances, including the annual Christmas Program, Arts Fest, and other special events.
- Develop and maintain an effective music education program that introduces students to a variety of musical styles, concepts, and performance opportunities.
- Schedule and manage daily classes within the assigned time.
- Recognize the individual abilities and potential of each student and guide them in developing their musical gifts.
- Evaluate student performance and provide encouragement, feedback, and guidance to support growth in musical skills.
- Prepare and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom resources.
- Maintain and oversee school musical instruments and recommend repairs or maintenance when necessary.
- Maintain student behavioral standards to ensure a productive and disciplined environment during group rehearsals, practices, and performances.
- Collaborate with school administration and staff to plan musical elements for school events, assemblies, and programs.
- Supervise students appropriately in and out of the classroom during music-related activities.
- Maintain a Christ-centered, safe and positive learning environment for students.
- Participate in planning and execution of major school programs including the Christmas Program and Arts Fest Program.
- Attend educational workshops, training and professional improvement programs to maintain professional competence.
- Maintain accurate student grading records and monitor student progress.
- Evaluate student progress and ensure that students complete assignments.
- Organize and lead the student worship band for chapels or special school events.
Schedule
- Part-Time (10 hours/wk)
Job Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior musical performance experience (vocal and/or instrumental)
- Agreement with and support of the mission and values of Abundant Life Christian School
- Regular attendance at and active involvement in a Christ-centered church
- Prior teaching experience (preferred)
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students (preferred)
- Strong verbal communication and classroom leadership skills (preferred)
Compensation
Hourly Pay Range: $30/hr
